Position Summary
The Director of Strategic Sourcing is responsible for leading and managing the procurement and coordination of materials, equipment, and services necessary for construction-related projects. This role involves developing strategic partnerships with suppliers, ensuring the efficient flow of materials, and optimizing costs. The Director will also coordinate with project managers, engineers, and other departments to streamline operations and ensure timely project delivery.
Responsibilities
- Lead supplier selection, negotiation, and contract management to optimize cost, quality, and delivery performance.
- Oversee the procurement process, including requisition, sourcing, purchasing, and delivery of key materials and services. Develop and implement improvements as needed, including the use of technology and systems.
- Identify, evaluate, and maintain relationships with suppliers, ensuring they meet quality, price, and reliability standards.
- Drive innovation and continuous improvement initiatives within the sourcing function.
- Lead integration of procurement processes for newly acquired businesses to drive seamless ongoing operations.
- Conduct regular assessments of supplier performance, focusing on delivery timelines, cost-effectiveness, and service quality, and lead efforts to resolve any concerns.
- Develop and manage the purchasing budget, monitor expenditures, and identify opportunities for cost savings.
- Lead and mentor a team of procurement specialists, project coordinators, and support staff, providing guidance and training to enhance their skills.
- Ensure that all procurement activities comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies.
- Develop risk management strategies to mitigate potential supply chain disruptions.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, engineering, and finance teams to understand project requirements and timelines, identify sourcing opportunities, and mitigate supply risks.
- Leverage and continue to develop technology solutions that integrate with current and future systems to streamline, automate, and improve efficiency.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field; relevant certifications are a plus.
- 8+ years of experience in purchasing or procurement, with significant experience in the construction or building products industry preferred.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven leadership abilities and experience managing a team.
- In-depth knowledge of sourcing standards and regulations.
- Proficiency in procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite.
