Director of Accounting and Operations
This position sits within a multi-site/multi-state Private Equity backed distribution organization. The company has been highly acquisitive, and looking for this individual to bring structure to the AR/AP strategy.
The Director of Accounting and Operations plays a pivotal leadership role overseeing the company’s Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable functions. Reporting directly to the CFO, this individual will ensure precise transaction reporting, adherence to regulatory standards, and the continual improvement of internal processes. This role involves collaborating across departments to uphold financial accuracy, operational efficiency, and business growth.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Receivable:

Lead and manage a credit and collections team of approximately 20 members, promoting a culture of efficiency, accuracy, and positivity.

Oversee the creation and implementation of credit and collections policies and procedures within a rapidly growing organization.

Develop strategies to improve cash flow, reduce outstanding receivables, and optimize the collections process.

Set departmental goals and strategies to ensure smooth operations within the credit and finance division.

Ensure strict adherence to Corporate Credit and Collections Policies.

Act as the primary point of contact for all client relationships, offering guidance and acting as a liaison between the company and clients.

Assess and establish credit limits for new accounts based on credit reports and references.

Negotiate payment terms with overdue accounts and develop collection strategies, including when to engage third-party collections.

Resolve account discrepancies and initiate credits or adjustments according to company policies.

Lead weekly collection meetings with the team and the CFO to track progress and address challenges.

Prepare and present the quarterly bad debt reserve for CFO approval.

Oversee the recruitment, training, and performance management of the credit and collections team, including interviewing candidates, making hiring decisions, and supporting the onboarding process.
Accounts Payable:

Lead an Accounts Payable team of approximately 10 members, fostering an environment of efficiency, accuracy, and teamwork.

Streamline operational processes to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.

Manage financial transaction systems, proposing improvements for automation and scalability.

Oversee the processing of vendor invoices, ensuring smooth workflows and timely payments.

Develop and implement strategies to optimize cash flow through efficient payment processes.

Ensure full compliance with company policies and internal controls.

Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key vendors.

Collaborate with the Purchasing team to enhance process efficiencies and negotiate optimal payment terms with vendors.
Strategic Planning & Leadership:

Work closely with the CFO to design and implement financial strategies that support business growth.

Provide leadership and mentorship to the accounts receivable and payable teams, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

Support corporate transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, as needed.

Lead and manage strategic projects as they arise, ensuring alignment with company goals.

Establish clear, open, and effective communication channels with both internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications & Requirements:

A degree in Finance, Business, or a related field is required.

A minimum of 10 years of experience in managerial or director-level roles.

Over 10 years of experience in Credit, Collections, or Accounts Payable positions.

Proven expertise in process improvement and experience working with ERP systems.

Strong leadership skills, with a proven track record of managing cross-functional projects and driving operational improvements.

Exceptional communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and adapt to evolving business needs.
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in the distribution or manufacturing industries.

Familiarity with lien and state compliance regulations.

Prior experience working with private equity firms.
