Director of Human Resources

Our client, a community-based acute care hospital that operates under the umbrella of a national, Joint Commission-accredited healthcare system with hospitals across the U.S., is seeking a Director of Human Resources to lead HR strategy and people operations at their Newport, TN facility. This high-impact leadership position offers direct access to executive leadership and the opportunity to shape workplace culture for a deeply rooted hospital team.

About the Facility:

• 80-bed regional facility (50-bed nursing home + 30-bed hospital)
• Strong, tenured leadership team and HR-forward culture
• Reports directly to the CEO; active member of the hospital’s executive leadership team
• Supported by a national healthcare system that provides structure, compliance support, and access to broader resources
• Located in Newport, TN, just 50 miles east of Knoxville and 15 miles from the North Carolina border, the hospital offers easy access to the Smoky Mountains, a low cost of living, and weekend getaways to the Carolina coast within a driving distance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO and executive team on all HR matters
• Lead initiatives around employee engagement, talent acquisition, retention, and satisfaction
• Oversee facility-level recruitment for management and staff positions (excluding clinical and physician roles)
• Track, support, and improve employee satisfaction through metrics and develop engagement plans accordingly
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, as well as corporate HR policies
• Manage and mentor HR staff including an HR Generalist and support personnel
• Align local HR operations with broader goals set by the parent healthcare system
• Maintain a hands-on, visible presence throughout the hospital and serve as a trusted resource for all levels of staff

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field (Master’s degree or HR certification preferred)
• 3+ years of HR leadership experience, ideally as an HR Director or Senior HR Manager
• Demonstrated experience managing HR staff and leading HR initiatives at a strategic level
• Strong generalist background with hands-on experience in employee relations, recruiting, retention, and compliance
• Excellent knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices
• Must be able to work onsite full-time in Newport, TN (relocation with assistance available)
• Stable work history and demonstrated ability to build trust at all levels of an organization
• Healthcare or hospital experience preferred, but not required

Compensation & Benefits:

• Base salary range: $75,000 – $87,000 (some flex depending on experience and qualifications)
• Bonus opportunity: up to 10% annually
• Relocation assistance: Up to $10,000 reimbursed with receipts
