The Opportunity

Our client, a high-growth manufacturing and distribution company in the Greater Austin area, is seeking a Materials Manager with the strategic vision and operational expertise to advance into a Director of Operations role overseeing end-to-end supply chain operations.

This isn't just a management position—it's a chance to be a culture architect and operational leader within a growing organization that relocated and established new facilities in 2022. You'll have the unique opportunity to implement efficiencies, optimize inventory practices, and build collaborative systems across a high-volume warehouse operation handling thousands of SKUs across multiple distribution channels including Amazon FBA, D2C, and wholesale.

What You'll Do

Warehouse Operations & Team Leadership (PRIMARY FOCUS):

  • Lead and develop warehouse operations team: Directly manage 15-20 warehouse professionals, including Warehouse Supervisor, Inventory Analysts, and Shipping/Receiving staff, with hands-on floor leadership (not desk-based oversight)
  • Manage daily warehouse operations: Oversee receiving, put-away, inventory management, picking/packing, and shipping processes with a focus on accuracy, efficiency, and safety
  • Own inventory strategy: Develop and execute inventory and replenishment strategies, ensuring product availability across all customer channels, including Amazon FBA; manage FBA inventory lifecycle, including pre-positioning and replenishment scheduling
  • Optimize warehouse processes: Implement cycle counting programs, physical inventory procedures, warehouse layout optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Manage carrier relationships: Oversee shipping and receiving operations with carriers (FedEx, UPS) to optimize logistics performance and dock scheduling
  • Build team capability: Coach, train, and develop warehouse staff through clear standards, performance management, and leadership development

New Production Line Implementation Support:

  • Support new production equipment rollout: Coordinate materials management for new manufacturing equipment, design warehouse processes to support new production requirements
  • SAP system integration: Ensure new production line equipment and materials flow are properly configured in SAP S/4HANA, work with IT and engineering on system requirements
  • Materials flow design: Establish receiving, storage, and distribution workflows for new production line materials and finished goods

Manufacturing & Procurement Coordination:

  • Partner with procurement team: Coordinate with the Engineering & Quality department (who manage vendor relationships and purchasing) on materials planning, warehouse readiness for incoming materials, and inventory level optimization
  • Support manufacturing operations: Ensure material availability for production schedules, coordinate materials flow to production lines, optimize raw materials and work-in-process inventory levels
  • Collaborate cross-functionally: Partner with manufacturing, quality, engineering, sales, and e-commerce teams to align materials planning with production capacity, promotional activity, and product launches

Systems, Analytics & Continuous Improvement:

  • Optimize SAP S/4HANA: Provide leadership in Materials Management (MM) module usage and optimization, integrate warehouse management systems, label printing, and mobile shipping solutions
  • Drive performance improvement: Develop and track warehouse KPIs, conduct root cause analysis, implement corrective action plans
  • Support S&OP processes: Participate in Sales & Operations Planning, ensuring warehouse capacity and inventory align with demand forecasts
  • Advance analytics capabilities: Implement Power BI dashboards for warehouse performance tracking, scenario planning, and inventory optimization

Why This Role Is Different

Our client is currently in an exciting growth stage following relocation and facility expansion. They need someone who can elevate collaboration and strengthen cross-functional partnerships as they scale. The ideal leader brings an entrepreneurial mindset focused on profitability while fostering teamwork across all departments. The COO is highly entrepreneurial and values people who think like owners, but also know how to build cohesive, high-performing teams that win together.

This role offers genuine upward mobility into a Director of Operations position overseeing end-to-end supply chain. They're not looking for someone treating this as a resume builder—they want a leader who's excited to grow with the organization long-term and make a measurable impact on operations and the bottom line.

The Culture

Our client values collaboration, respect, excellence, accountability, and trust. They're building a team of A-players who think like entrepreneurs but operate as a cohesive unit. If you thrive in environments where you can make a real impact, have autonomy to drive change, and want to be part of something you can grow with long-term, this is the opportunity.
