Job Description

Vice President, Corporate Development

Location: Greater Boston Area Preferred

Company Overview

This role is with a private equity-backed medical technology company with a leading position in a specialized segment of the healthcare market. The organization develops and commercializes innovative medical device solutions used in critical care and procedural settings worldwide. With a differentiated product portfolio, strong market position, and growing global footprint, the company is entering an exciting phase of expansion focused on accelerating growth through strategic acquisitions and portfolio development.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the CEO, the Vice President of Corporate Development will lead the company's acquisition strategy and execution efforts while serving as a key advisor to the executive leadership team, Board of Directors, and private equity sponsor.

This is a highly visible role responsible for identifying, evaluating, executing, and integrating acquisitions that accelerate growth and expand the company's portfolio and market position. The successful candidate will be equally comfortable developing acquisition theses, leading diligence, negotiating transactions, and driving post-acquisition integration and value creation.

The company has an active acquisition agenda, including international opportunities and future European expansion initiatives. Acquisition targets may range from single-product businesses to corporate carve-outs and established medical technology platforms with enterprise values ranging from approximately $5 million to $200 million.

Importantly, this is not a pure deal-making role. Success will be measured not only by transactions completed, but by the successful integration and value creation achieved following each acquisition.

Key Responsibilities

Corporate Development & M&A

  • Develop and execute the company's acquisition strategy in partnership with the CEO and executive leadership team.
  • Build and maintain a robust pipeline of acquisition opportunities across medical technology and adjacent healthcare sectors.
  • Establish relationships with founders, management teams, investment bankers, private equity firms, and industry advisors.
  • Lead target evaluation, strategic assessments, financial modeling, valuation analysis, and investment recommendations.
  • Prepare Board-level presentations, business cases, and acquisition recommendations.
  • Manage all phases of transaction execution, including diligence, negotiation, structuring, and closing activities.
  • Evaluate opportunities ranging from tuck-in acquisitions and product acquisitions to larger platform transactions and carve-outs.
  • Partner with executive leadership and private equity stakeholders to prioritize opportunities based on strategic fit, financial returns, and integration complexity.

Integration & Value Creation

  • Lead integration planning prior to transaction close and ensure seamless post-close execution.
  • Develop and oversee 100-day plans, synergy capture initiatives, organizational integration efforts, and performance tracking.
  • Partner with functional leaders across commercial, operations, finance, regulatory, quality, supply chain, and R&D to ensure successful integration outcomes.
  • Translate investment assumptions into actionable operating plans and measurable value creation initiatives.
  • Monitor acquisition performance against investment objectives and drive corrective actions where necessary.
  • Serve as the executive quarterback for post-acquisition integration, ensuring accountability, alignment, and realization of expected value.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be a highly execution-oriented corporate development leader with demonstrated experience leading acquisitions from sourcing through integration within the medical device or broader medtech industry.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA or other advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in corporate development, investment banking, private equity, strategy consulting, or a combination thereof.
  • Significant experience leading end-to-end acquisition processes.
  • Prior medical device or broader medtech industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success executing transactions and leading post-merger integration efforts.
  • Experience working within private equity-backed organizations is strongly preferred.
  • Strong financial modeling, valuation, diligence, and strategic analysis capabilities.
  • Experience evaluating targets ranging from small tuck-in acquisitions to larger platform transactions and carve-outs.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment.
  • Exceptional communication skills and executive presence with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.

Personal Characteristics

  • Hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves executor with a bias toward action.
  • Strong operator who can move seamlessly from deal sourcing to integration execution.
  • Relationship-oriented with the ability to build credibility internally and externally.
  • Comfortable operating in a lean, entrepreneurial, and high-growth environment.
  • Highly accountable with a focus on results and value creation.
  • Strategic thinker who is equally comfortable in the details of execution.

Why This Opportunity?

This role offers a unique opportunity to work directly with the CEO and private equity sponsor to shape the future of a growing medical technology platform. The successful candidate will have the ability to influence corporate strategy, lead meaningful acquisitions, drive integration efforts, and play a critical role in creating long-term enterprise value.
