IT PMO Lead
Director, IT PMO & Project Delivery Location: Remote (U.S.) | Regular travel required Reports To: Vice President, IT
About the Company
A rapidly growing energy services company operating across North America, expanding through an active acquisition strategy. With nearly 20 locations and close to 700 employees, the organization is scaling quickly and investing heavily in the systems, data infrastructure, and integrations needed to support that growth. The IT function is at the center of that work.
About the Role
This is a builder role.
The organization is running a high-volume portfolio of complex IT initiatives — ERP migrations, CRM consolidation, M&A integrations, and major data projects — and needs someone to bring structure, methodology, and visibility to that environment. The Director of IT PMO & Project Delivery will own the active project portfolio while simultaneously establishing the PMO framework the organization needs to scale.
This person will define how projects are intake'd, scoped, structured, tracked, and closed. They will build the reporting infrastructure that gives leadership a clear view of portfolio health. And they will hold internal stakeholders and external partners accountable to delivery standards — without always having direct authority to do so.
This is not a role for someone who steps into a mature PMO. It's for someone who has built one.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead delivery of a complex, active portfolio of IT projects, including ERP migrations, CRM consolidation, M&A integrations, data initiatives, and new system buildouts
- Define and implement IT PMO methodology from the ground up — project intake criteria, scoping standards, milestone structures, artifacts, tooling, change management, and closeout discipline
- Build portfolio visibility infrastructure — dashboards, status reporting, budget tracking, risk flagging — where little currently exists
- Prepare weekly project and portfolio updates for executive leadership; support monthly reporting to the Board of Directors through the VP of IT
- Partner with internal stakeholders and external vendors to define goals, scope, success metrics, and delivery expectations — and maintain accountability to those commitments throughout the project lifecycle
- Continuously assess resource capacity against project demand and support smart prioritization decisions across the portfolio
- Manage change requests and evaluate impact to scope, schedule, cost, and resources
- Oversee project closeout including handoff, post-launch support, documentation, and lessons learned
- Drive continuous improvement in project management practices and governance across the IT organization
What We're Looking For
- 10+ years of IT project management or PMO leadership experience
- Demonstrated experience building or rebuilding PMO methodology — not simply operating within an established framework
- Strong background in software and data projects: ERP migrations, CRM implementations, data platform initiatives, M&A system integrations; candidates coming primarily from infrastructure backgrounds are not the target profile
- Experience managing external vendor and partner project managers, including holding them accountable within structures where direct authority is limited
- Ability to produce board-level portfolio reporting independently — budget status, risk flags, time allocation, and portfolio health summaries
- Proficiency with Microsoft Project, Azure DevOps (ADO), or comparable PM tooling; demonstrated ability to implement tooling in a new environment
- Comfortable operating in fast-moving, unstructured environments where building the plane while flying it is the norm
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; equally effective with technical teams and executive stakeholders
- PMP or equivalent certification preferred; Agile/Scrum certifications a plus
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field
