Job Description

Chief Executive Officer

Confidential Private Equity-Backed Specialty Healthcare GPO

Remote | Executive Leadership

About the Company

Our client is a market-leading specialty healthcare Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) serving independent physician practices across the United States. The organization partners with providers, pharmaceutical manufacturers, and specialty distributors to create purchasing efficiencies for high-cost specialty medications while delivering value to both its physician members and industry partners.

Following a recent investment from a leading private equity firm, the company is entering an exciting new phase of growth. Already profitable and recognized as a leader within its niche, the business is seeking an entrepreneurial Chief Executive Officer to professionalize the organization, expand its commercial capabilities, and execute an ambitious growth strategy.

The Opportunity

This is a unique opportunity to lead a highly differentiated, asset-light healthcare services business at a pivotal stage in its evolution.

Reporting directly to the Board of Directors and private equity sponsor, the CEO will oversee the company's strategic direction while building the infrastructure, leadership team, and commercial organization necessary to accelerate growth. This executive will serve as the face of the organization, strengthening relationships with pharmaceutical manufacturers, specialty distributors, and physician practices while driving long-term enterprise value.

This role is ideally suited for a commercially oriented executive who understands the specialty healthcare GPO landscape and has experience negotiating strategic partnerships, leading complex contracting initiatives, and scaling organizations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the overall strategy and execution of the company's value creation plan.
  • Partner closely with the Board and private equity sponsor to execute the long-term growth strategy.
  • Build and professionalize the organization while maintaining its entrepreneurial culture.
  • Develop executive relationships with pharmaceutical manufacturers, specialty distributors, and strategic partners.
  • Lead commercial contracting efforts and negotiate high-impact agreements.
  • Drive growth of the provider network through strategic membership expansion initiatives.
  • Recruit, develop, and lead a high-performing team.
  • Establish scalable operating processes, performance metrics, and organizational infrastructure.
  • Serve as the company's primary external representative across customers, suppliers, and industry stakeholders.

Ideal Background

Successful candidates will bring executive leadership experience within the specialty healthcare ecosystem, with a strong understanding of pharmaceutical contracting, provider purchasing, and commercial partnership development.

Candidates with direct experience leading or working within a specialty healthcare Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) are particularly encouraged to apply.

Highly relevant backgrounds include:

  • Specialty healthcare GPOs
  • Specialty pharmaceutical distribution
  • Pharmaceutical manufacturers with GPO, trade, channel strategy, or national account leadership experience
  • Healthcare purchasing organizations
  • Specialty pharmacy
  • Physician services organizations supporting specialty pharmaceuticals

Qualifications

  • Executive leadership experience with significant commercial and strategic responsibility.
  • Deep understanding of specialty pharmaceutical contracting and distribution channels.
  • Demonstrated success negotiating complex commercial agreements with manufacturers, distributors, or provider organizations.
  • Strong relationships across the specialty pharmaceutical ecosystem are highly desirable.
  • Proven ability to scale organizations and lead growth initiatives.
  • Strategic mindset combined with strong financial and operational acumen.
  • Experience working with private equity-backed organizations is strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA or other advanced degree is a plus.

Why This Opportunity

  • Lead a market-leading organization in a highly specialized and growing healthcare niche.
  • Join immediately following a private equity investment and help shape the future of the business.
  • Build and scale the executive team while partnering directly with experienced private equity investors.
  • Significant opportunity to create enterprise value through long-term equity participation.
  • Fully remote leadership role with national scope.
