Vice President, Finance / Controller
We are seeking a Vice President, Finance / Controller for a private equity-backed, multi-site, multi-state organization. This is a key finance leadership role responsible for strengthening the connection between corporate accounting, finance operations, and the company’s business units as the organization continues to scale.
The Vice President will oversee key operational accounting and finance functions, including credit and collections, payroll, accounts payable, and operational accounting, while providing leadership and support to business unit finance leaders and controllers. The organization has established processes and a strong existing infrastructure; the focus of this role is to build upon that foundation, drive greater consistency and efficiency, and ensure processes and controls remain scalable as the business grows.
This individual will serve as a highly engaged partner to business leaders, using financial and operational insights to influence decision-making and drive performance across the organization.
Responsibilities
- Lead operational accounting and finance activities across a complex, multi-site and multi-state organization.
- Provide leadership and oversight for credit and collections, payroll, accounts payable, and other shared finance and accounting functions.
- Partner with business unit finance leaders and controllers to drive consistency, accountability, and financial discipline across the organization.
- Serve as the bridge between corporate accounting and field/business unit finance teams, ensuring financial information flows effectively between the businesses and corporate headquarters.
- Evaluate existing accounting and finance processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, scalability, standardization, and controls.
- Lead initiatives to centralize and streamline appropriate accounting and finance activities while maintaining strong partnership with the individual business units.
- Engage directly with business leaders to understand operational performance, identify financial trends and opportunities, and translate financial information into actionable business insights.
- Drive adoption of enterprise-wide processes, policies, controls, and best practices across business units.
- Partner with the Controller and accounting organization to strengthen operational accounting processes, close activities, reporting accuracy, and financial controls.
- Lead change management across decentralized business units, gaining alignment from finance leaders and operators while implementing scalable processes.
- Support continued growth, including integration of new locations or businesses into the company’s finance and accounting infrastructure.
- Develop and mentor finance and accounting leaders while building greater consistency and connectivity across the broader organization.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA strongly preferred.
- 12+ years of progressive accounting and finance leadership experience, ideally within a multi-site, multi-entity, or decentralized organization.
- Strong operational accounting background with experience overseeing functions such as accounts payable, credit and collections, payroll, and general accounting.
- Demonstrated ability to partner with business unit and operational leadership and use financial information to influence business decisions.
- Experience driving process improvement, standardization, and scalability across multiple locations or business units.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, financial controls, close processes, and operational accounting.
- Experience leading through influence across decentralized finance teams and business units.
- Proven ability to bridge corporate finance/accounting with field or business unit operations.
- Experience within a private equity-backed or acquisitive organization strongly preferred.
- Track record of operating effectively in a growing organization where the focus is on continuous improvement and scalability rather than financial turnaround.
