Director, Equipment Finance Business Development

Our client is a well-established and growing organization within the transportation and equipment leasing industry. With more than 20 years of operational success, the company is expanding its Equipment Finance division and seeking a senior-level business development professional to help drive growth across the Midwest region.
This is an opportunity to join a stable organization while helping build and expand a newer, high-growth business unit focused on heavy-duty wheeled equipment financing and leasing solutions.
Position Overview
The Director, Equipment Finance Business Development will be responsible for identifying, developing, and closing new business opportunities within the equipment finance and leasing market. The ideal candidate will bring strong industry relationships, experience developing large finance transactions, and the ability to generate revenue within a highly competitive market.
This role is focused on building long-term client relationships and expanding market presence across a multi-state Midwest territory.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities within equipment finance and leasing
- Develop relationships with fleet operators, transportation companies, and commercial equipment users
- Structure and present customized financing and leasing solutions
- Generate and manage a pipeline of mid-to-large transaction opportunities
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and financing structures
- Collaborate internally with credit, operations, and leadership teams
- Monitor market activity, industry trends, and competitor developments
- Maintain accurate pipeline and forecasting updates through CRM systems
- Represent the organization at industry events, conferences, and networking functions
Ideal Candidate Profile
- 10+ years of experience within equipment finance, leasing, or commercial transportation finance
- Proven business development success within:
- Fleet leasing
- Transportation finance
- Heavy-duty wheeled equipment
- Commercial vehicle financing
- Existing industry relationships and ideally a current book of business
- Experience closing complex transactions ranging from approximately $1M–$2M+
- Strong understanding of credit analysis, pricing, and financial structures
- Self-motivated with an entrepreneurial mindset
- Ability to work independently across a large territory
- Strong communication, presentation, and relationship management skills
Equipment Focus
The organization is open to candidates with experience financing or leasing:
- Trucks
- Trailers
- Forklifts
- Dumpster trucks
- Transit buses
- Other heavy-duty wheeled equipment
(Note: Railcar experience is not a focus for this role.)
Compensation
- Base salary: $100K–$125K
- Uncapped commission structure
- Strong long-term growth opportunity within an expanding division
