Controller


The Controller is responsible for assisting in all accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls for the company. This role ensures accurate and timely financial information, supports the CFO in budgeting and analysis, and assists ownership with basic tax coordination in partnership with the external CPA firm. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable working in a dynamic, multi-location business environment.


Key Responsibilities

1. Accounting & Financial Operations

  • Lead and manage all core accounting activities, including the general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, and payroll processing.
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP.
  • Reconcile bank, credit card, and balance sheet accounts on a regular basis.
  • Ensure accurate and timely recording of revenue, commissions, and inventory transactions across multiple retail locations.
  • Oversee vendor payments, expense tracking, and cost control initiatives.

2. Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Partner with the CFO to support budgeting, forecasting, and performance monitoring.
  • Maintain up-to-date cash flow statements and assist in preparing weekly cash projections.
  • Deliver financial insights and variance analyses to management and ownership for informed decision-making.
  • Prepare detailed schedules, reconciliations, and documentation for audits, lender reviews, and external reporting requirements.

3. Tax & Compliance Coordination

  • Maintain organized and accurate records for all tax filings and supporting documentation.
  • Collaborate with the company’s CPA firm to provide necessary reports, reconciliations, and supporting data during tax season.
  • Assist ownership with personal tax-related items such as K-1s, distributions, and expense categorization.
  • Monitor relevant business and state tax deadlines to ensure timely compliance with all filing requirements.

4. Internal Controls & Regulatory Compliance

  • Develop, implement, and maintain strong internal accounting controls.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local financial reporting requirements.
  • Manage sales tax filings, payroll tax submissions, and other required regulatory reports.
  • Continuously evaluate processes to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and financial integrity.

5. Systems & Process Management

  • Administer and maintain accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks or ERP system), ensuring data accuracy and reliability.
  • Support seamless integration between POS systems, payroll platforms, and accounting systems.
  • Identify and recommend technology or automation improvements to enhance reporting, workflow, and controls.



Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required.
  • CPA certification or active pursuit of CPA designation preferred.
  • 5–8 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within retail, telecom, or multi-location business environments.
  • Strong proficiency with QuickBooks or comparable accounting software.
  • Solid understanding of accrual-based accounting, reconciliations, and cash flow management.
  • Working knowledge of business and personal tax processes is a plus.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organizational ability, and communication skills.
  • High degree of integrity and discretion in handling confidential financial information.
