About the Company:
Our client is a long-established American manufacturer of precision engineered systems and equipment serving mission-critical applications across defense, aerospace, medical, industrial, and energy markets. With well over a century of continuous operation and roughly $100M in annual revenue, the company designs, builds, tests, and overhauls highly engineered products that operate in demanding environments around the world. This is a confidential search. The client's identity will be shared with qualified candidates during the screening process.
Position Summary:
The Production Supervisor leads a team of 25 to 30 production employees through Production Leads to ensure on-time, on-budget, high-quality assembly, testing, repair, and overhaul of precision mechanical systems and customer-owned equipment. The work is high-mix, low-volume: custom and semi-custom builds requiring genuine technical understanding alongside strong people leadership. The role reports to the Plant Manager and includes responsibility for after-market services support, field service and warranty coordination, and repair and overhaul quoting.
The ideal candidate is someone who can earn credibility on the floor through real mechanical knowledge and hold a team accountable through clear, consistent leadership. This is not a clipboard role, and it is not a pure technical role. It requires both.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead a team of 25 to 30 production employees through Production Leads: hiring, onboarding, cross-training, performance management, and annual reviews.
• Drive on-time assembly of precision mechanical systems and sub-assemblies in a high-mix, low-volume custom environment, maintaining the highest quality standards.
• Direct overhaul and repair operations, including labor and material estimates; support the profitability of after-market repair and overhaul sales.
• Support the After-Market Services department with field service and warranty coordination and timely response to parts and repair quote requests.
• Collaborate with engineering, quality, manufacturing engineering, and program teams to optimize processes and resolve production issues.
• Monitor area expenses and flag variances to the Plant Manager; support budget compliance without direct P&L ownership.
• Identify process improvement opportunities and help implement Lean-based solutions.
• Maintain accurate records in the ERP system; manage daily timekeeping, time-off approvals, and productivity tracking.
• Maintain facilities and equipment, including preventive maintenance schedules; coordinate outside services as needed.
• Champion a culture of safety and ensure safe operating practices across the production floor.
• Read and interpret plans, schematics, and specifications for assigned production projects.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Associate degree, certificate from a technical or trade school, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• Five or more years of supervisory experience in the manufacturing of mechanical devices.
• Demonstrated experience with complex mechanical assembly processes in a high-mix, low-volume or custom manufacturing environment.
• Ability to read and understand structural drawings, schematics, and operating manuals.
• Proficiency with ERP systems.
• Familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to lead and develop a team while maintaining technical credibility on the floor.
• U.S. Citizen or qualified U.S. Person in accordance with 22 CFR 120.15 (ITAR); may require the ability to obtain a DoD security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with precision mechanical or rotating equipment manufacturing.
• Familiarity with AS9100 and/or ISO 9001 quality management systems.
• Lean Green Belt certification or equivalent applied Lean experience.
• Exposure to defense-regulated or MIL-spec manufacturing environments.
• ERP system experience; CSI familiarity is a plus.
• Bachelor's degree or advanced coursework in manufacturing, business management, or a related field.
Compensation & Schedule
• Base salary: $85,000 to $100,000 depending on experience.
• Profit sharing, 401(k), and comprehensive, affordable health coverage.
• 9/80 schedule: every other Friday off. Shift hours are 5:45 AM to 3:15 PM.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
• Manufacturing, warehouse, and office environment; work near moving equipment, mechanical parts, and lift trucks following safe operating procedures.
• May be exposed to loud noise, fumes, and/or chemicals.
• Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, stretch, reach, and lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
