Job Description

Value Stream Manufacturing Manager

Precision Machining | Medical Device, Aerospace & Defense Components

Location: Long Island, NY (Onsite) ***Open to relocation with assistance provided***

Compensation: $130k to $140k base plus 10-15% target annual bonus (tied to goals, delivery, and company performance)

Reports to: Director, Manufacturing Operations

Team: 3-4 direct reports (Team Leaders) over approximately 85 associates across two shifts

Departments Overseen: CNC Milling, Turning, Grinding, Gear Cutting, and Manual Machining

Required

  • Minimum 5 years in an industrial manufacturing environment, preferably precision machining, assembly, medical device, aerospace, or another highly regulated industry
  • 2-3+ years of direct, non-union supervisory experience, including assigning work, setting expectations, and managing performance
  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification required or strongly preferred; Black Belt preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of lean tools: value stream mapping, standard work, visual management, Kaizen, SMED, cellular flow, root cause analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to use KPIs and operational data to drive measurable improvement in safety, quality, delivery, and cost
  • Experience in managing capacity, labor planning, WIP, bottlenecks, and schedule attainment in a fast-paced environment
  • Comfortable partnering with Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and Maintenance in a hands-on environment

Nice to Have

  • Experience in a private equity-backed or actively acquiring manufacturing platform
  • Familiarity with complex assemblies for medical, aerospace, or government end customers
  • A repeatable playbook from a best-in-class manufacturing operation for improving utilization and throughput
  • Existing ties to Long Island or the greater NYC metro area

The Opportunity

Our client is a decades-old precision manufacturer of tightly toleranced metal components for medical devices, aerospace, and defense customers, including several Fortune 500 names. A major private equity firm backs the company and was recently named the founding company of a new growth platform under new executive leadership with a track record of exponential growth. This role is the manufacturing architect who designs, implements, and sustains the lean systems needed to close that gap, from customer order through shipment, in a precision machining and assembly environment.

What You'll Do

Value Stream Leadership & Daily Management

  • Lead daily execution of the value stream, ensuring customer demand, backlog, schedules, and shipment commitments are met
  • Sponsor and run daily Tier 1 and Tier 2 performance meetings, and conduct regular Gemba walks to observe the floor, solve problems, and reinforce standard work
  • Monitor safety, quality, delivery, WIP, labor utilization, and machine capacity to identify risks and improvement opportunities before they impact customers

Flow, Capacity & Constraint Management

  • Build and maintain value stream maps to reduce lead time and eliminate non-value-added activity
  • Manage bottlenecks by prioritizing labor, tooling, maintenance, and machine availability at constrained operations
  • Balance labor and machine capacity across the value stream to support level loading and schedule adherence
  • Partner with Maintenance, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Quality to reduce downtime and improve equipment reliability

Lean Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement

  • Plan and lead Kaizen events targeting measurable gains in safety, quality, delivery, cost, lead time, and productivity
  • Eliminate the seven wastes and improve setup/changeover performance using SMED, standard work, visual management, cellular flow, and mistake-proofing
  • Implement and sustain visual management systems, including performance boards and escalation processes

Quality & Problem Solving

  • Drive first-pass yield improvement and scrap/rework reduction across the value stream
  • Lead root cause investigations using structured problem-solving and ensure corrective actions are implemented and sustained
  • Partner with Quality and Engineering to resolve nonconformances and improve process capability

Production Planning & Execution

  • Plan, coordinate, and assign department activities to hit production targets and customer commitments
  • Estimate labor and capacity needs and adjust plans with Supply Chain based on equipment, priorities, and business needs

People Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop Team Leaders and associates within the value stream
  • Build a flexible, cross-trained workforce and foster a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement
  • Provide onboarding, technical guidance, and training for new and current employees

Why This Role Is Different

This is not an advisory seat. The person here owns a full section of the shop floor, its people, safety, quality, and output, every day. Our client is the founding company of a new private equity-backed growth platform, with real customer wins already in hand and a clear productivity mandate. For someone who has already solved this exact problem elsewhere, this is a chance to bring a proven playbook to a company building toward something much bigger.

Culture & Growth

Our client's manufacturing leadership team is being built out as the company scales, creating real room for this role to grow. Leadership wants someone building a career chapter here, not passing through: someone who respects the shop's institutional knowledge while bringing the urgency and Lean discipline the next phase requires.

***Relocation assistance is available for candidates with a genuine tie to the area or already based on the East Coast.***
