Accounting Manager

This position sits within a private equity backed healthcare organization transforming towards a practice accounting model. This individual will be instrumental is establishing processes for their market alongside a Director.


The Accounting Manager is responsible for leading the month-end close process and supporting the preparation of accurate, timely financial reporting. Reporting to the Director of Accounting, this role oversees key accounting functions, manages a Senior Accountant, and partners cross-functionally to ensure compliance with accounting standards, strengthen internal controls, and support the organization's financial objectives.


Work environment: 100% remote


Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the month-end and year-end close process, ensuring accurate financial reporting and adherence to established deadlines.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of Staff and Senior Accountants while effectively managing workload and close activities.
  • Oversee revenue recognition processes, partnering with internal teams to analyze billing data and ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Prepare and review complex accounting analyses related to revenue, reserves, and other significant accounting areas.
  • Review financial statements, investigate variances, and recommend adjusting journal entries as appropriate.
  • Oversee balance sheet reconciliations, general ledger account analysis, intercompany transactions, and cash management activities.
  • Partner with Accounts Payable, Payroll, and other finance teams to ensure accurate and timely information supports the financial close process.
  • Administer and optimize the general ledger system, resolving issues and supporting process improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and company accounting policies while identifying opportunities to improve accounting processes and procedures.
  • Prepare financial analyses and management reports to support business decision-making and respond to leadership requests.
  • Assist the Director with special projects, system implementations, and other ad hoc initiatives.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required; CPA preferred
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in corporate and/or public accounting.
  • Public accounting experience preferred; Big Four experience is a plus.
  • Experience within a multi-site organization is preferred; healthcare industry experience is a plus.
  • Previous leadership experience managing or mentoring accounting staff preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial reporting.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial data analysis.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to balance accuracy while maintaining a broader business perspective.
