Job Description

The Vice President of Financial Operations

The position is a senior finance leader responsible for overseeing core financial operations within a growing organization. This individual will focus on strengthening processes, improving controls, developing the team, and building scalable financial infrastructure to support continued growth.

This is a hands-on leadership role requiring broad financial operations experience, strong systems orientation, and a demonstrated ability to improve processes and drive change across an evolving organization.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership across key financial operations and transactional accounting activities.
  • Develop and strengthen financial processes, policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Drive process improvement and standardization to increase accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual processes and improve the use of financial systems and technology.
  • Oversee cash management, banking activities, payment processes, and working capital initiatives.
  • Establish KPIs and reporting to monitor performance, productivity, and areas for improvement.
  • Lead and develop the Financial Operations team, establishing clear accountability, performance expectations, and professional development.
  • Partner with Accounting, Finance, Operations, IT, and other functional leaders to improve processes and resolve business issues.
  • Support systems implementations, organizational initiatives, and other projects impacting financial operations.
  • Partner with senior leadership on financial controls, operational performance, and strategic finance initiatives.
  • Build scalable processes, systems, and team capabilities to support the continued evolution of the organization.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in financial operations, accounting operations, corporate finance, or a related function.
  • Significant experience leading and developing finance or accounting teams.
  • Broad understanding of transactional finance, cash management, working capital, reconciliations, and internal controls.
  • Demonstrated success improving financial processes and building scalable operating procedures.
  • Experience leading systems implementations, process automation, or technology-enabled improvements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues and implement practical solutions.
  • Experience working within a growing, evolving, or complex organization preferred.
  • Strong communication and cross-functional partnership skills.
  • Hands-on, proactive leadership style with the ability to balance day-to-day execution with broader process improvement and strategic initiatives.

Job Responsibilities

Vice President, Financial Operations

Dobbs Tire & Auto Centers has grown from one St. Louis store in 1976 to 97 locations across four states by putting customers first and delivering honest, expert service. As VP, Financial Operations you will turn that growth into durable, well-controlled profitability—integrating acquisitions, tightening working capital, and giving operators the numbers they need to win every day. This role sits at the center of our next chapter of expansion.

Performance Objectives

  • Within 90 days, deliver a single source of truth for store-level P&L, cash, and working-capital metrics that operators and the executive team actually use.
  • Close the books accurately within 8 business days and produce a monthly operating package that flags variances and recommended actions before the 10th.
  • Lead financial due diligence and 100-day integration for acquired businesses so they hit target EBITDA and cash conversion within two quarters.
  • Reduce days sales outstanding and inventory days by 15% over 18 months while protecting fill rates and customer wait times.
  • Stand up scalable AP, payroll, and treasury processes that support 120+ locations without adding headcount linearly.
  • Build a rolling 13-week cash forecast and capital-allocation process that funds growth, maintenance capex, and community commitments with zero surprises.

Environment & Resources

You report to the CFO and partner daily with Operations, Store Support, and M&A. You lead a lean finance team with room to hire as we scale. Tools include our existing ERP, store POS, and planning systems; you will own the roadmap for upgrades. Budget authority covers process, systems, and talent needed to professionalize multi-state retail operations.

Essential Qualifications

  • Proven record building or transforming financial operations for a multi-location retailer or service business of 50+ sites.
  • Hands-on experience integrating acquisitions—chart of accounts, controls, cash, and reporting—within 100 days.
  • Ability to produce operator-ready store P&Ls and cash forecasts, not just corporate consolidations.
  • Track record improving working capital (DSO, inventory turns, AP) without harming customer experience.
  • Comfortable in a growth-stage, private company where you both design the process and roll up your sleeves.

Role Selling Points

  • Direct impact on a 97-location, still-growing family-rooted brand that has never lost its service culture.
  • Visible seat at the table for every acquisition and capital decision as we expand in Missouri, Illinois, Texas, and Ohio.
  • Opportunity to professionalize finance while keeping the speed and customer focus that built Dobbs.
  • Community-minded company that invests locally—your work funds both growth and the charities we support.

If you want to build the financial engine that lets great operators serve more customers, apply now. Bring your integration scars, your operator empathy, and your bias for clean, timely numbers. We are ready when you are.
