Director of Practice Development, Northeast
Director of Practice Development – Northeast
Location: Remote, ideally based in Boston or New York
Reports To: Chief Growth Officer
About Us
We're a leading alternative dispute resolution (ADR) provider, delivering mediation, arbitration, and related services to law firms, businesses, and individuals nationwide. Having built a leading platform on the West Coast, we're now expanding into the Northeast.
Every neutral (mediator/arbitrator) on our platform operates as an independent entrepreneurial practice. We provide the brand, infrastructure, marketing, and business development support that helps each one reach its full potential — with a dedicated senior partner assigned to every neutral, not just shared marketing support.
Position Summary
This role is responsible for the long-term success of our neutrals across the Northeast. After a neutral completes onboarding, the Director becomes their primary strategic partner — part strategist, part consultant, part operator — helping them build referrals, grow case volume, and increase revenue.
This is not a new-business recruiting role. You won't be sourcing new neutrals; you'll be growing the practices of neutrals already on our platform, coaching them on business development while personally executing high-impact growth initiatives alongside our marketing and BD teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of assigned neutrals after launch; set quarterly priorities and annual business plans for each
- Build and execute customized growth strategies: identify referral sources, target markets, and strategic relationships
- Run regular business reviews on pipeline, performance, and growth opportunities
- Coach neutrals on networking, thought leadership, speaking opportunities, and market positioning
- Plan and moderate roundtables, CLE programs, and other events that raise neutrals' profiles
- Represent the firm at industry conferences and bar association events
- Monitor practice performance; build corrective action plans when needed
- Partner cross-functionally with Marketing, Operations, Finance, and leadership to remove growth barriers
- Maintain dashboards and KPI tracking for your portfolio of neutrals
- Develop repeatable playbooks as we scale into new markets
Qualifications
Required
- 8+ years in franchise operations, practice management, client advisory, business development, customer success, or consulting — ideally within legal or professional services
- General understanding of the legal industry
- Track record helping business owners, professionals, or independent operators grow their businesses
- Strong analytical, project management, and coaching skills
- Ability to influence without direct authority
Preferred
- Direct ADR, litigation services, or legal marketing/BD experience
- Franchise operations or consulting (supporting franchisees, not franchise sales)
- Experience in professional services, healthcare, financial services, or other relationship-driven industries
- Background supporting executives or independent professionals in growing their practices
- Experience in a high-growth or PE-backed services business
- CRM and business development analytics familiarity
Leadership Characteristics
The ideal candidate thinks like a business owner, builds trust through credibility and execution, and is comfortable advising highly accomplished, senior-level professionals. They combine strategic thinking with operational discipline, influence effectively without formal authority, and are energized by helping others succeed.
Travel
Periodic travel throughout the Northeast for neutral meetings, conferences, and events, with regular presence in our Boston and New York offices.
